The most recent crime rate in Canada is less than 7 percent average. The most recent cime rate in B.C. is 68 percent above average and for vancouver it is 27.5 percent above average.
I couldn't find anything more recent than 2009! But in a study on Macleans.ca, Vancouver ranked 8th most dangerous city in Canada(+71.5% from the country's average). BC also had 8 of the top 15 most dangerous cities. Overall, in Canada, crime rate has been going down. However, gang related crimes have been going up, especially in BC. And that's all I could find...

Since 2008 Vancouver had the 7th highest crime rate. Dropping Three spots since 2005. With other Canadian cities the overall crime rate has been falling "dramatically".
